Waynedale lost a close one against league opponent Norwayne on Wednesday. The Bears jumped ahead with 5 runs in the 2nd and 5 more in the 3rd to make it 10-1 but in the bottom of the third the Bobcats strung together 5 hits for 7 runs making it a close 10-8 game. After a scoreless fourth, the home team jumped ahead with 5 runs in the 5th off of just one hit, with an error, 3 walks, and 2 bit batters by Waynedale. After a pitching change, they ended the Norwayne rally with a double play throw at 1 and tag at home. The Bears were able to inch closer with 1 run in the 6th but left 3 runners in scoring position in the 4th, 5th, and 6th which proved to be the difference.
Waynedale’s Olivia Ford pitched 4.1 innings (9H, 0K, 9BB), Courtney Geiser pitched 1.2 innings (0H, 0K, 0BB). Laney Murphy (3-4) led the Bears with 3 singles, and an RBI. Courtney Geiser and Hailey Raber each went 2-4 with 2 singles and Raber with an RBI. Alli Reed chipped in with a long single for 2 RBI’s. Sophie farrar brought in a run off a bunt single and Chloe Butcher joined in with a single.
